RSS FeedAnd the winner of SJ launcher contest is..
OK, there was no such contest, but I used the 3 launchers: Launchy, Keylink and SlickRun for the about one week each as I mentioned here, and here is my summary.
Single winner is SlickRun. My only previous issue with SlickRun was that it was showing up in taskbar, and when I would Alt Tab, it would show up in the list of programs. The launcher was getting in the way. That turned out to be just a default setting. Simply click on Options in Setup, and check the box “AutoHide SlickRun” and that goes away.
Launchy is a close second – my only gripe with it was that sometimes it was taking too much CPU, but that may not be a general problem.
As a direct comparison between Launchy and SlickRun – Launchy starts off by building a neat catalog, but SlickRun is easier to use in terms of defining a new alias (magic word). From my perspective, SlickRun is a winner in the longer term as you can build your aliases based on what you use more often.
Keylink is a distant third – I don’t recommend it.

I’d like to know what was the key to use those three only? I’m getting quite good replays for Pretty Run.

Grega, I am not familiar with Pretty Run, but I am happy to give it a try. Have you compared Pretty Run with Slick Run, and what is your experience?

I’m the author of the Pretty Run – http//delphistep.cis.si. I used to work in the Europlus, they are authors of the NiceLabel – http://www.nicelabel.com/ Some people there were using Slick Run in the past and they switched over to Pretty Run when introduced to them. Very important to them was ability to search among printers. Along with that, magic words are supported, searching start menu, desktop,…, remembers things copied to clipboard, search internet, search bookmarks of the Firefox, IE, Chrome,…
As more and more people are using it, it’s now translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

According to my exploration, millions of persons in the world use launchers, compared to billions who don’t. Are you sure we need launchers at all?

Great review. I have used many of these, and on Mac I simply use the Spotlight. Thanks for this review.
