I am saving all my love for you – RIP Whitney

This was one of the very very very first songs that I was enamored with. (Was 9 when this song came out.) Feels so sad to know that an era has ended tonight.

Drugs – there is never a joke around them. When I was studying in Delhi, at least three of my friends, who were all *extremely* gifted people and top scientist material, lost their way after having “tried” drugs. Rest in peace Whitney.

Arroyito – Translation in English

This is my attempt at translating “Arroyito” into English.  Of course, some of the translations cannot be literal, so I hope I have done justice to the original song.

Dawn came, and found that you ventured on a long journey
My heart escaped from (your) luggage
And it is still filled with memories
Dawn came, and the old rooster was singing in the window
Today I did not sing, because you did not open the morning
And even the wind has returned because you were not (here)
You are the stream that runs by my hut
You are the negative of the picture my soul
You are the holy water that grows in my crops
You’re that glimmer that warms my nest
Evening came, and the heart opens its album in silence
An accordion is printing the memories.
And also makes a song for you to come back
Evening came, and the light goes away from the hut
And I don’t feel the light in the corners of my soul
And I no longer have that you bring inside.
You are the stream that runs by my hut
You are the negative of the picture of my soul
You are the holy water that grows in my crops
You’re that glimmer that warms my nest
I only want to be the owner of your love
I only want to be the owner of your laughter
To find you again and return you (my) heart
And that you accompany me for the rest of my life. Uy!
You are the stream that runs by my hut
You are the negative of the picture of my soul
You are the holy water that grows in my crops
You’re that glimmer that warms my nest

Top 10 Dance Songs of All Time

I suspect, that the “top 10 dance songs of all time” is a characteristic more unique than a fingerprint. So, if you don’t agree with my assessment, thank you, thank you, thank you, for supporting my theory. If you don’t find a single song in common with your list, we aren’t even cousins! But I sure hope that you enjoy these songs!

I have tried to understand what “top 10 dance songs” means to me. The best I have come up to is that all of these songs are VERY positive an uplifting. There are many other songs that are routinely played on dance floors, such as “I will survive” by Gloria Gaynor, and sure I enjoy them, but it doesn’t feature anywhere in my top list. Each to their own I guess.

Enjoy – have an awesome day, and leave me a note of which other OBVIOUS song I entirely forgot to include. (How could I do that?)

10. Dancing Queen

9. Girls Just Wanna have fun – Cindy Lauper

8. Numa Numa

7. It’s a beautiful life – Ace of Base

6. Macarena

5. Kudi Kudi oh Kudi

4. Bon Jovi – Livin on a Paryer

3. Ketchup

2. Khao Piyo

1. Danza Kuduro

BNLFAN?

Saw this cool vanity plate – BNBarenaked LadiesLFAN.  Couldn’t decide for the longest time what sports team it refers to.  If it was WRSFAN, I would think it is a local football team, or if it was BRSFAN, some baseball team might come to mind.  Similarly if it was NYYFAN, sure, we get it.

So having run out of brain cells, google result points to a music group, whose “Pinch Me” song I really like.

The Sunset Song at Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden

The “Sunset Song” at the Hirshhorn Sculpture garden consists of two superimposed versions of the “Banks of the Ohio” sung by Susan Philipsz, one from a male and one from a female perspective.  (Listen to the Olivia Newton-John’s version at YouTube.)

The song creates such a poignant and doleful impact that it can even transform a sunshine filled day and sunshine filled young man into a contemplative figure.  The song is located right next to the beautiful “Lunar Bird” sculpture by Joan Miro, the famous CatalanRoman and the Lunar Bird sculptor.

Here, you can find the same young man next to the Lunar Bird, away from the Sunset Song, and you can see the increase in sunshine, as if the clouds have suddenly parted.

When you are far from me

[This is a poem translated from a Bollywood song - video link at the end. All credit to the music writer and director. The song is a duet, hence pink and blue colors.]

When you are far from me
Remember me
And make me remember you

Don’t forget

That I will come back
I am going just for a little while

When you are far from me

Remember me

And make me remember you

When you are alone, it shouldn’t be like that
The beautiful smile that you wear now

Shouldn’t disappear when I am gone

Meet your friends
Laugh with them and make them laugh a bit

If you meet a good looking girl

Perhaps she is in need of your friendship
If she approaches and smiles at you
Then really so should you

When you are far from me

Remember me

And make me remember you

But don’t forget

That you will come back

You are going just for a little while

Translated from a song in the movie Mashaal.

MP5 players?

Now a days, you can buy a cool 4 GB Video MP3/MP4 Player for less than 50$. Amazing price drop. However, some vendors are claiming to sell an MP5 player. Never mind the fact that there is no such format, and no such spec. :-) When you read the details, it turns out that an MP5 player is simply an MP4 player that doesn’t require internal video conversion.

Just an example, how much obfuscation and confusion the marketing departments can create in their zeal to sell something.

Does it bother you now – the clothes you told me not to wear?

Man,

I feel like a teenager when I listen to Dido. Especially, some songs are really cool for me – like this one, with nice up and down music. I sometimes dream that I am playing in her band, in a large audience, and that the audience is only watching her, and I am coolly playing an instrument in a group of 10 band. Nobody notices me, exactly as I would want, and yet, everybody hears the undertones of music as they sing along to her, and take different meanings out of the same song and the same music, each one of them.

It is extremely dorky to say, “Oh this artist really gets me”. Dido isn’t really aware of me. I am aware of Dido. Yet, to say “I really understand Dido” would be meaningless. Really, all that happens is that the artist says something that the listener is then able to understand and enjoy, but you already knew that.

Unpause.
